WELLINGTON-Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and longtime friend, Ray Davis, 91, passed away June 1, 2018 at his home.
He was born December 5, 1926 in Wellington, Utah to David O. and Ethel Hatfield Davis. Married Donna Irene Wells, December 8, 1950 in the Manti Temple.
Ray was a lifelong resident of Carbon County. He attended elementary and junior high school in Wellington and later attended Carbon High and Carbon College. Honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II. Ray served as a Technical Sargent 4th Grade in General MacArthur’s Headquarters in Japan. He was very patriotic and dedicated his life to the service of others. Ray served as a Scout Leader and Little League Coach in Wellington for many years. He was active in sports and participated in fast pitch softball. He also was a certified amateur baseball and softball umpire for over 20 years.
As an active member of his community, Ray served as a Wellington City Councilmember from 1968-1974 and as Wellington City Mayor from 1974-1982. He was a member and chairman of the Carbon County Nursing Home Board. Served on the Price River Water Improvement District Board where he was instrumental in establishing the culinary water and sewer systems throughout the county. Ray was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America District # 22 where he retired from the coal preparation plant in Wellington. Ray loved the outdoors, square dancing and playing his harmonica for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Davis, Wellington; children, Raelene (Dick) Allred, Preston, ID; Don (Debra) Davis, Rock Springs, WY; Cheri (Geary) Hunsinger, Castle Dale; Tab Davis, Carbonville; Troy (Carole) Davis, Wellington; Tami (Jason) VanTassell, Columbus, OH; 11 loving grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and a son-in-law, Geary Hunsinger.
Funeral service, Thursday, June 7, 2018, 11:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price. Family will receive friends at Mitchell’s Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Wellington City Cemetery.
