After losing to the Wasp 8-4 earlier in the week at home, the Dinos rebounded with a win on Friday to claim the Region 14 title.
“We played a good ball game on Friday and I truly believe we are the best team in our region and you got to play like it to prove it. The kids played well and I was happy,” said Carbon Head Coach Jeff Cisneros.
Carbon scored early in the game with two runs in each of the first and second inning to go up 4-0 on Juab.
The Wasps would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to cut the Dinos’ lead to 4-3.
Carbon’s defense and pitching would not allow another run after that, led by senior Cody Lowe.
Lowe led the Dinos on the mound by pitching a complete game and only allowing five hits and three runs with nine strikeouts.
Carbon would add one more run in the third inning and another in the sixth inning to pull away from Juab.
As a team the Dinos had 11 hits and five RBIs while striking out only five times
Zac Bradley led all players with four hits with one RBI and a run.
The win on Friday concludes the Dinos’ region schedule and will host non-region 4A opponent Desert Hills on Tuesday in their home regular season finale.
With the Region 14 title locked up, Coach Cisneros is now focused on the state playoffs.
“It feels good to get back on that winning way but ultimately our goal is a state title,” said Cisneros.
Cisneros said that he feels his team is ready to take on the challenge of winning a state championship.
“We have been put out in the semifinals the last three or four years so we have been there before. We have been working for this all year and this is the reason why I schedule a tough non-region schedule,” said Cisneros.
Since the Dinos clinched the Region 14 title, they will be the hosting their state playoff pod of games this Saturday for the first two rounds of the playoffs.
Teams and times will be announced later this week with games being played at the Helper Legion Field.
