Carbon baseball defeated the Emery Spartans 16-0 in five innings on Wednesday in Helper.
The Dinos used a huge first inning at the plate to distance themselves early from the Spartans.
Carbon was aggressive swinging the ball early in the game, something that Head Coach Jeff Cisneros said after the game that his team always tries to do early in games.
“That’s always something we want to do, be aggressive with our bats and some days we don’t do it but today we did. Good things happen when you are aggressive,” said Coach Cisneros.
That aggressiveness paid off when the Dinos scored eight runs off of six hits.
Junior third baseman Collin Lewis had a big game for the Dinos before exiting with an injury in the third inning. He had a triple, a double and two RBIs in his two plate appearances against Emery.
“He swung the bat really well today, I was really happy with the way he swung it today. We have been talking about working on some things with him and today he looked good at the plate,” said Cisneros.
Senior pitcher Cody Lowe pitched in the first two innings of the game and had a walk with three strikeouts.
Lowe would leave the game as a pitcher in the top of third and Cisneros gave the ball to senior Triton Abeyta to finish the game.
Abeyta pitched three innings and only gave up one hit with two walks.
After the game, Abeyta said that coming into the game pitching with a big lead helped him pitch well to finish the game.
“It was nice, you don’t have to worry as much. You get to have fun and focus on yourself then the team,” said Abeyta.
The Dinos would add seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with help from Jadon Robertson and Anthony Jones. Both Robertson and Jones had two RBIs in the fourth inning.
Jones had a team-high three RBIs along with two hits in three at-bats on Wednesday.
The win against Emery makes it two in a row for the Dinos heading into Spring Break and a 8-5 overall record.
“I am excited for the kids. Hopefully we have a safe Easter weekend and carry this enthusiasm and momentum into next week with three region games,” said Cisneros.
Carbon will play Delta at home on Tuesday then play a make-up game from last week against Providence Hall in Herriman on Wednesday. They will wrap up the week with another game against Delta on the road.
