Price Police located and recovered a stolen vehicle over the weekend and arrested two people with extensive criminal histories in connection with the theft.
According to a Price City Police Department news release, Officers Brandon Rigby and Cameron Sartori received a tip Sunday regarding the location of a vehicle stolen out of Tooele, and a visual surveillance was maintained in a southeast Price neighborhood.
The news release said the car, a 2016 Nissan Juke, had a Colorado license plate which was found to be stolen from Englewood, CO., and belonged to a Nissan Rogue SUV.
When the vehicle with four occupants left a residence just after noon, the officers conducted a stop on south Rose Avenue, where they were assisted by Sheriff’s Deputies Mike Hreinson and Andy Leonard. Two backseat passengers were identified and released from the scene when it was determined they had just been picked up for a ride.
The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Amuel Lee Sheffield, and the right front passenger, 27-year-old Jimmie Sue Brand, a married couple from Price, were both found to have outstanding warrants. They were arrested on the warrants, and for possession of the stolen vehicle.
Police said the couple chose to speak freely and were cooperative with the investigation. They allegedly acknowledged receiving the vehicle in Tooele and having it for about a week, including a trip to Colorado. A search of the vehicle turned up personal-use amounts of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Sheffield and Brand were booked into the Carbon County Jail for a 2nd Degree Felony charge of Receiving a Stolen Vehicle, and Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia.
According to court records, Sheffield has 17 previous arrests on charges that include assault, aggravated assault, theft, drug offenses and unlawful possession of a vehicle. Brand has 11 previous arrests, including charges for assault, theft and drug offenses.
