Mont Harmon JV Boys Basketball Caps Off Season with Tournament Title

The Mont Harmon JV boys’ basketball team finished their 2017-2018 season with a win in the Tournament last week.
After finishing the season with an 18-1 record and a region title, Mont Harmon faced some adversity heading into the Tournament.
Two days before the Tournament their starting forward and leading rebounder Gradon Leautaud broke his hand.
Their Head Coach Rory Bradley had to make some last-minute adjustments to his roster and game plan for the championship game against Canyon View including bringing up sixth graders such as Ryker Butler and Maizyn Pritchard.
“We had to have the rest of the boys excluding the point guard to make up for the loss of ten rebounds by Gradon,” said Mont Harmon Head Coach Rory Bradley.
Bradley went to his bench and asked Bradley Wood to fill in for Leautaud.
“I told him that we need him to step up. He played at another level and that was probably the difference in the game,” said Coach Bradley.
Wood would go on to help the Pirates with 9 points and 9 rebounds in the championship game.
During the championship game the Pirates played very aggressive in the first half especially on defense against Canyon View. They played so aggressive that they fouled their opponent enough to get to the free throw line and score 11 of their 22 points in the first half.
“Our defense was tough and they get in foul trouble a lot because they go after the ball a lot. They harass everybody,”
Mont Harmon remained in control being up 6 during the third quarter but Canyon View would come back in the fourth quarter.
Down 45-44 with three seconds left, Canyon View had one more attempt to try and win the game but they had to go the full length of the court to do so.
After the inbounds they passed to half court but the ball was picked off by Connor Bradley which sealed the victory for the Pirates.
Coach Bradley said that he was proud of his team and the way they competed all season long. Last season Bradley coached his group of players as sixth graders and only won three games.
“They had determination and willingness to not lose, there was a few games where they were down and they had to claw back into them. They surprised a lot of people including themselves,” said Bradley.
The Varsity Tournament for Mont Harmon eighth graders will be this week at Helper Middle School where they will try and to pick up another title for their middle school.
