Carbon Vs Delta

The Carbon girls’ basketball team defeated the Delta Jackrabbits 58-23 in their 2017-2018 home opener.
After playing their first nine games on the road, Carbon Head Coach Ted Bianco and the Lady Dinos finally had the opportunity to show the home crowd what his team will look like this season.
The Dinos completely dominated the Jackrabbits from the moment the ball tipped to the final buzzer. Bianco said that those road games were what prepared his team for Tuesday nights resounding win.
“We have been in every situation we can be in so far this year and I think they came out and took control of the game, which is what we asked them to do,” said Bianco.
The Lady Dinos controlled both ends of the floor in so well in the beginning, it resulted in them leading the Jackrabbits 18-2 by the end of the first quarter.
A major part of the early control was the play of junior forward Jodi Noyes in the paint. She had 8 points and four rebounds in the first five minutes of the game.
Noyes start and impact against Delta was huge to the team’s impressive first quarter run according to sophomore point guard Jordan Bianco.
“She is very important, she is our leading rebounder and leading scorer half the time, so when she shows up it makes it easier for the rest of us to score,” said Jordan.
In the second quarter Carbon would continue to shut down Delta on defense while scoring at will on offense, led by Jordan Bianco.
Jordan scored 11 points in the first half including three shots made from behind the three-point line.
“My teammates started moving the ball and they hit me when I was open, I know that when I am open, I can make it but mostly I give credit to them for getting me the ball,” said Jordan.
The Lady Dinos would go on to hold their lead throughout the second half and sit most of their starters in the fourth quarter.
Three Carbon players scored in double figures against Delta: Noyes finished the night with 18 points, Bianco had 19 and senior forward Kelsey Sorenson had 12.
“Every game we have had three players in double-figures this year we have won so that seems to be our m.o and we got to continue to do that throughout the year,” said Coach Bianco.
Defensively Carbon only allowed the Dinos to make six field goals in the entire game and as a team had 23 steals.
Coach Bianco said that his team had to play physical and competitive to get the win.
“If we are not physical and competitive we are going to lose. These girls are hard workers, they have worked hard since day one of practice. There is only 16 of them on the team and in my opinion they are the hardest working 16 girls in the state in 3A basketball,” said Bianco.
Up next for Carbon is a non-conference battle against Uintah on Thursday night at home.
Earlier this season the Lady Dinos defeated Uintah 50-27 in the Shannon Johnson Classic.
