CHS BB vs Juab

The Carbon Dinos boys basketball team defeated the Juab Wasps 50-40 on Wednesday night at home in their Region 14 opener.
The win was the Dinos first at home, and it snapped a 5-game losing streak as well.
Carbon head coach Kyle Willson said after the game that it was a team win and very important for his team, especially being a region win.
“It feels really good to get that first region win, its huge, it gives our guys confidence. It’s the win we needed after being a little down from a few losses in a row,” said Willson.
The Dinos played with confidence from the get-go especially from three-point range in the first quarter. They made three 3’s in the first quarter to help build a lead in front of the Wasps.
Leading the way for the Dinos in the first half was senior forward Ryan Gagon, who finished the half with 9 points.
Coming into Wednesday’s game Gagon was averaging 8 points and 8 rebounds. He would finish the night with a team-high 17 points including a crucial shot in the last few minutes of the game to help fend off the Wasps.
“Ryan stepped up huge. Last year he lit up all the time, and that is what we needed today, said Carbon junior forward Derek Hillam.
Hillam finished the night in double figures with 12 points while senior Jordan Vasquez added 9 points.
