PRICE – The Carbon wrestling team picked up their first home win of the season by defeating the Manti Templars 50-23 on Tuesday.
In front of a packed home crowd, the Dinos had a strong performance against a team that is making the transition to the 3A classification from the 2A classification.
“I am very proud of their performance, they are improving every week and doing the little things to make things happen for them,” said Carbon Head Coach Brock Fausett.
James Ray, Nick Butkovich, Triton Abeyta, Ryan Madrigal, and Zack Skaggs all picked up wins in the first periods of their matches.
Riley Ferguson, Casey Shiner, and Jacob Barlow also added wins in Tuesday’s Dual.
Before the varsity team got started with their matches, the junior varsity squad for Carbon put up a good performance according to Fausett.
“Our JV wrestlers also performed well and did some really ‘turning the corner’ things,” said Fausett.
With only four home matches on the Dinos’ home schedule, Fausett said that he was happy to get the win to help with the development of his program.
“It’s key to get wins this time of season especially for young wrestlers who have a lot to digest at the high school level. It is also a good gauge to measure what things we need to work on to continue to compete,” said Fausett.
Up next is a dual against a very tough Union team at home. The JV team will begin their matches at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity will start at 7 p.m.
