With additional development taking place near Exit 240 on the Price Bypass highway, concerns have been raised regarding potential leakage from the canal that furrows the hillside to the west.
Holiday Inn Express, Tesla electric vehicle charging station, DQ Grill & Chill, and Price Ford are recent additions to the area on the south side of Westwood Blvd.
Government officials, water users and state representatives got together in the summer of 2016 to discuss the leakage problem and determined the best solution was to line the canal.
A project is now underway to line the canal with a synthetic polyethylene sheeting. Weeds and willows are being removed along the banks of the canal where a small trench is dug so edges of the sheeting can be buried to hold it in place.
A new emergency outlet structure near the Holiday Inn Express is also being installed as part of the project.
Cody Ekker excavation of Lehi was awarded the contract for the project.
