The Carbon High School golf team won the region tournament Tuesday at Spanish Oaks Golf Course in Spanish Fork. The team rounded the tourney out with a combined score of 329. Second place Union High followed by 14 shots, and Providence Hall trailed by 20.
Though rough weather tested the golfer’s’ performance, the Dinos came out with 4 individual players in the top 6. Ryker Smith won the title of region medalist with a first place score of 73. “He played solid all day and didn’t make many mistakes,” explained coach Tom King. Ryan Gagon took second in the tournament earning a 79. Brady Gagon placed third with an 86. Carson Martines tied for 6th place with a 91. Other varsity players, Zade Carillo and Nick Olsen shot a 97 and 103 respectively.
In the JV division, Kaden Slavinsky shot a low 83, and Tyler Yaklovich returned with a 92.
Slots to compete at the state tournament will be determined by Coach King. “They will be working hard in practice to qualify, and we’ll see what they do,” he said.
