Tough weather won’t stop Carbon golfers

By Submitted by Tony Martines

It has been said that golf isn’t for wimps and the resilient Carbon Dino Boys Golf team proved that Thursday at Canyon Hills in Nephi. The toughest weather conditions of the season with rain, wind, and cold slowed but didn’t stop the Dinos, who won their sixth straight tournament.
The top four for Carbon were separated by three strokes and were led by senior Ryker Smith with a score of 79. Brady Gagon was second with a solid 81, followed by Ryan Gagon and Carson Martines who both finished with 82. Zade Carrillo turned in an 84, while Nick Olson grinded out a 90. Jordan Penovich posted a score of 94 and Patrick Kardelis completed with 101.
The Dinos team combined for the tournament low 324, trailed by Union with 331, next was Providence Hall with 335, Delta finished with 351, American Leadership had 371, Juab shot 374, and Maeser ended with 453.
The boys from Carbon now have a 141-stroke lead going into the last region match of the year which will be hosted by American Leadership Academy at Spanish Oaks Golf Course on Tuesday.
