About 20 cyclists from Idaho, Colorado and Utah took the challenge of the Fourth Annual Century Bike Ride on August 26.
Sponsored by the Carbon County Recreation Department, the event included riders ranging from 30 to 61 years of age.
It was 43 degrees when the ride started at Scofield Reservoir’s Madsen Bay. The 100-mile route followed the Energy Loop, including the grueling climb up Eccles Canyon, around to Huntington, then to Cleveland and Elmo. From there the cyclists followed the Upper Miller Creek Road to Ridge Road and on to Wellington. The final few miles were on SR-6 to Price, where the riders crossed the finish line at Washington Park.
The Century Ride was not a race, but Coordinator Corey Jensen said the first cyclist to reach the park did so in about six hours. The last rider took about 10 hours to reach the finish line.
The ride next year will be held in conjunction with the Carbon County Fair. Jensen said he hopes to attract even more riders as word of the scenic and challenging event spreads throughout the cycling community.
