Traffic was backed up for miles before being detoured through Carbonville after a tour bus caught fire on the Price Bypass portion of SR-6 Monday afternoon.
Law Enforcement Officers from several agencies responded, along with the Price Fire Department.
The Utah Highway Patrol said there were no passengers aboard the bus and the driver escaped without injury.
Troopers said the bus was traveling eastbound when the driver side rear wheel assembly malfunctioned and blew off of the axle. The driver pulled over immediately after the explosion and a short time later, the bus burst into flames.
The rim that blew off of the bus shot across the median, through the westbound traffic and hit a fence.
Westbound traffic was reopened just after 4:00 p.m. and eastbound traffic resumed a short time later.
