Carbon Dinos triumphed at Union’s golf course in Roosevelt on Aug. 22. The team earned their lowest score of the season, a 308. Ryker Smith won the tournament with a 72 even par. Ryan Gagon placed second in the tourney, shooting a 77. Carson Martinez shot 78. Brady Gagon and Zade Carrillo both came in at 81. Tyler Yoklavich and Kaden Slavensky shot 87, and Jordan Penovich ended with a 94.
Coach Tom King is pleased with the progress individual players are making. “Carson Martinez played well. He was able to follow through and grind out a good score,” he said, “I’m also proud of Zade Carrillo. He played a solid round today. It’s his lowest round of the season so far.”
The second place team at the tournament was Union trailing Carbon by 16. Providence Hall followed with a 337, Delta earned a 370, American Leadership Academy came in at 380, Juab earned 385 and Maser a 417.
In region standings, the Dinos have increased their lead to 97 shots over the second place team, Providence Hall. “Ultimately our goal is to make the gap unbridgeable. Our players need to keep improving by playing against themselves and the golf courses,” said King.
On Wed. Aug. 30, the Dinos will travel to Providence Hall’s home golf course.
