A driver hauling insulation found out the hard way that his load was higher than the railroad bridge over 3550 North in Spring Glen. The truck came to a sudden stop and remained at a standstill, with the load jammed under the overpass bridge, Thursday evening. The name of the driver, who is a resident of Spring Glen, was not released.
According to sheriff’s office reports, the driver said he has passed under the bridge many times, but his load of styrofoam insulation was too light to weigh down the flatbed trailer.
Union Pacific Railroad engineers said there was no structural damage to the bridge.
The structure is only 12 feet, 6 inches above the pavement, while the clearance at the newer railroad underpass at Kenilworth Road is 15 feet 7 inches.
The driver was cited for failure to obey a traffic warning sign.
