PRICE-On August 10, 2017, Donald Blake Hanna passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Price after a long fought battle with cancer. He leaves behind his dear wife, Myrna who he has been caring for the past few years.
Blake was born January 24, 1936, in Price, Utah to John Darwin Hanna (known as Jack) and Helen Mae Olsen. He had two brothers and one sister, Harold (Darla), Wayne (Loretta) and Carol Fluckiger (Duane) He grew up on the family farm in Wellington, Utah. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp at the age of seventeen, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.
Married to the love of his life, Myrna Barker for fifty-seven years, together they raised their five children. Dan, Kim, Joe, Becky and Trent. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple where they also served a mission as temple patrons.
Blake worked his entire life in the mining industry and eventually became a Federal Mine Inspector (MSHA) in the Price area, retiring in 1999. Blake enjoyed time spent with his wife, Myrna, family members and grandchildren, winters at their place in Quartzsite, Arizona and took pride in their beloved home and yard. He enjoyed reading, especially history and had a knack for remembering details. Dad “Grandpa” will be greatly missed by all.
Blake is survived by his wife, Myrna and their five children, Daniel Blake Hanna (Cathy); Kim Mele (Greg); Joe Hanna (Michelle); Becky Timothy (Collin); and Trent Hanna (Brandy); twenty-two grandchildren and forty-five great grandchildren.
Blake is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Helen Hanna, his brother, Harold Hanna of Paonia, Colorado and a dear granddaughter, Amanda (Mandi) Mele.
Funeral service, Tuesday, August 15, 2017, 10:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family will receive friends at Mitchell’s Monday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in the Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Blake online www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
