Sanpete County officials are investigating at least one case of suspected arson after a camp trailer was destroyed by fire Friday East of Spring City.
Brayden Larson of Fairview said on a social media post he was driving on the Spring Canyon Road and saw someone who looked “super suspicious” leaving the area in a red and white off road vehicle. As he passed by, he saw “a drift of smoke” coming from the trailer and turned around to investigate.
Larson said the trailer was locked and he was not able to put the fire out, so he called 911. He was able to remove the propane tanks, but by then the camp trailer was engulfed in flames.
Larson told the Sun Advocate the incident happened about two miles from the mouth of Spring Canyon. He said the Spring City and Mt. Pleasant Fire Departments responded to the call, along with Sanpete County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Larson said he has heard of other similar incidents in area near Skyline Drive, and was told by law enforcement officers they have “a more likely suspect” in mind. Calls to the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office and Manti LaSal National Forest law enforcement officer were not returned by press time.
