Boyd R. “Dutch” Williams

PRICE-Boyd R. “Dutch” Williams, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away at his home on June 23, 2017 after a short battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma.
Dutch was born April 22, 1932 in the Carbon County coal camp of Sweet Mine, Utah to Robert H. and Jessie Mae Oviatt Williams. He lived in Sweet Mine until 1940, then moved to Standardville, Utah. In 1941 he moved to Price where he has resided ever since. He graduated from Carbon High School in 1950.
Dutch married Rosemary Cannariato on May 4, 1957 at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price, Utah. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Dutch and Rosemary were a great example of team work, friendship, and a very happy married life. They took daily walks around Price for many years, often took rides in Carbon and Emery Counties, canned peaches, prepared delicious meals, and constantly joked and laughed together. They were always willing to lend a helping hand and were very involved in their children and grandchildren’s lives, even helping to shovel snow and rake leaves into their 80s.
Dutch worked at various jobs after high school until he was hired at the Price Post Office as a clerk. He retired in 1992 after 30 years of service.
He was a sports enthusiast, his passion being fly fishing, especially fishing the Huntington Canyon stream. His uncle, Dick Williams, was his fly fishing partner in his younger days, and he would tell us of hiking over the mountain from Sweets to the Beaver area to fish in that stream when he was as young as 7 years old. He often said he would not trade his childhood for the world. Dutch also loved pheasant and deer hunting. He was a fan of the University of Utah and San Francisco 49ers.
Dutch was an avid reader; his interests began with anthropology, then World War II history and many mysteries, especially liking Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes. He also enjoyed tending to his backyard walnut tree. Recently he had taken up doing crossword puzzles and reading Louis L’Amour westerns.
Dutch was a treasure trove of information about Carbon County history, especially the coal camps he grew up in. He had a great memory and told wonderful, entertaining stories about growing up with his parents and his brother, Jim.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is irreplaceable to us and we will truly miss him and his wit, humor and intelligence.
He is survived by his loving wife Rosemary; daughters, Leslie Roye, Price, Utah and Linda (Scott) Green, Farmington, Utah; grandchildren, Lindsay Roye, Vance Roye and Travis Green; great-grandsons, Evan and Aiden Green; brothers-in-law, Joe Cannariato, Dominic (Clara) Cannariato, George (Pat) Cannariato; sisters-in-law, Ann Alfonso, Joan Pellegrino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Jessie Williams; in-laws, Joe and Rose Cannariato; brothers, James D. and Peter W. Williams and beloved grandson Harley Green.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main, Price, Utah. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of “Dutch” online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
The family wishes to thank the staff of Symbii Hospice, especially his aide, Bonnie Kirkwood, for the compassionate care given to Dutch.
