A Huntington man was taken to Castleview Hospital and then transferred to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo after being injured in a two-vehicle accident on SR-10 south of Price just before noon Monday.
The Utah Highway Patrol identified the victim as 62-year-old Jeffrey Brower. He was driving northbound in a white Ford Explorer when the vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane near Ridge Road and collided with a commercial truck.
Sgt. Warren Nelson said following the crash, Brower was not breathing but some nurses on scene began CPR right away and, “got him started.” UVRMC spokeswoman Janet Franks said Brower was listed in critical condition as of late Tuesday afternoon.
The truck was driven by 53 year old Neal Carter of Sigurd, who was not injured. Sgt. Nelson said the initial reports of a head-on collision were not quite accurate and the accident was actually what he termed, “an opposite direction side swipe.” The Explorer had traveled so far into the oncoming lane that the impact was on the passenger side of both vehicles. He said the driver of the truck tried to avoid the collision, but there was no attempt to steer or brake the Explorer, which could indicate that a medical condition was a factor in the crash.
Brower was leading a five-vehicle convoy back from an expedition to the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. The Explorer was registered to the Bureau of Land Management.
Sgt. Nelson noted both drivers were buckled up and airbags deployed upon impact.
