Lady Dinos Golf places third in Region 12, preparing for State Tournament

The Lady Dinos Golf Team finished third in Region 12 and also placed third in the Region 12 Tournament, which was played in Cedar City, at Cedar Ridge Golf Course on May 4. The region tournament decides which teams advance to the 3A State Tournament, top 12 individuals and academic honors.
Carbon’s third place finish earned them a spot at the State Tournament, to be held at Sleepy Ridge Golf Course May 17 and 18. Carbon also had three girls in the Top Ten and an Academic All-Region.
Laini Davis finished seventh in Region, Jordan Bianco ninth and Aubrey Fausett 10th. Gwyn Kardelis was named Academic All-Region. In team standings, Juab finished first in Region 12, followed by Richfield, Carbon, Canyon View and North Sanpete.
In tournament play, Aubrey Fausett led the team with 66 points. Jordan Bianco made 62, and Laini Davis and Gwyn Kardelis both made 56 for a team total of 240. Juab won the tournament at 279 points, and Canyon View finished in second at 243.
“I am very proud of my team,” said head coach Kenji Otani. “Laini has been solid all season and has been in the top ten all season. Jordan is a beginning freshman and has been ten or eleven all season. Aubrey turned it on and moved two spots yesterday. And Gwyn, Academic All-Region is tough, if you aren’t at least a 3.9 GPA, you won’t make it. All of my girls have worked hard and I am proud of each and every one.”
