Helper – Jo Ellen Harris Atwood passed away on May 2, 2017 at her home after a 20 year battle with leukemia. She was born the sixth child of nine siblings in Farmington, New Mexico, October 22, 1951 to Wayne Hubert and Elma Ileen John Harris.
Jo Ellen met Clay Reed Atwood in Moab, Utah, where they both lived at the time. They were married January 14, 1995 and were later sealed in the Provo Utah Temple.
Jo was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many different callings. She said that the one she loved the most was serving as Primary President in Moab.
She put in many years working with and helping others learn how to do Name Extractions for The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints.
Jo worked many, many jobs in her life, sometimes five jobs at a time. She was known far and wide for her clay sculpture works. Making the most beautiful Manger scene and Noah Ark with all the figures for them. Jo worked as executive secretary at Utah State University extension office in Moab.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clay, her daughter Izora (Zoey) Kay Walburg, her parents Wayne and Ileen Harris, 1 nephew Jim Harris, 2 nieces Justina Sheets and Gena Kennedy, 1 sister-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her son Jim, very special granddaughter Samantha Harvey, Clay’s children Mel, Mark, Mathew, Micah Atwood, KayDe Everett and her 8 siblings, Oliver, Elma, Ruth, Linda, Bonnie, Chad, Nivana, and Orlin. Jo Ellen was blessed with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and even some great-great nieces and nephews. Also many very good friends that she dearly loved.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Gordon Creek Ward, 175 N 1280 W, Price, Utah with a viewing Friday, May 5, 2017 at Fausett Mortuary from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to services at church. The grave dedication will be at the Moab City Cemetery at 4:00 PM. Family and friends may sign the guestbook and share memories of Jo Ellen at www.fausettmortuary.com.
