If you received a suspicious Google Doc today in your email, beware that it is part of a phishing attack.
Locally, as well as nationally, emails have been sent by users you may recognize requesting you to open a Google Doc. Once you click the link, it will take you to a Google page and ask you for your Google information. Do not provide this information. It would give hackers access to personal information stored in the account.
Emails received at the Sun Advocate look normal at first glance, but upon further inspection have been addressed to “hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh@mailinator.com” with the subject line that someone “has shared a document on Google Docs with you”. These emails have come from schools in the area including Carbon School District and Emery School District as well as Pinnacle Canyon Academy.
As a reminder, do not open any emails or documents sent to you that seem suspicious. If you receive an email sharing a Google Doc with you from a person or email you recognize, contact that person and ask if he or she sent it.
More information about this phishing attack will be provided as it becomes available.
