Carbon County Emergency Management and the Utah Bomb Squad used two robots to detonate a hand grenade that was found in a pile of rocks on Wednesday.
Carbon County Sheriff Department Deputies were dispatched to Castle Country RV, 4732 U.S. 6, near Helper, and upon arrival were shown a hand grenade laying in a pile of rock that had recently been delivered. It is suspected that the grenade was delivered in the rock from Utah County, although how or why it was there are unknown at this time.
Carbon County Emergency Management acted quickly and alerted the Utah Bomb Squad, who are located in Utah and Salt Lake Counties. The Bomb Squad deployed and were on scene within hours.
The Bomb Squad used two robots to transport the grenade from its location in the rock pile to an eight foot deep hole dug by the Carbon County Road Department for detonation.

Emery Telcom, Price River Water Improvement District, Helper Fire and Rescue, Helper City Police Department, Carbon County Ambulance Utah Highway Patrol, Carbon County Sheriff and Utah Bomb Squad were on scene to ensure safety of the community. Castle Country RV personnel were critical to the response, their swift observation and continued situational awareness were instrumental in what could have resulted in tragic situation.
