Early runs lead Carbon Softball to win over Richfield

By Sun Advocate

The Carbon High School softball team used a strong offensive performance early in the game to earn a win over Richfield High School on Tuesday, defeating the Wildcats 7-2.
The Dinos jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning, scoring three runs, with the help of an RBI single by Mckenna Sorenson and an RBI sacrifice fly by Cali Fossat.
While Richfield scored two runs in the third inning, the Dinos answered back with two of their own, including another RBI single by M. Sorenson, to increase the lead to three runs. The Dinos were able to hold the Wildcats scoreless through the rest of the game, but scored two more runs of their own in the sixth inning.
M. Sorenson, while contributing at the plate and going 2-for-2 with three RBI, also pitched six innings for the Dinos, only allowing the two runs to cross home and striking out seven. Kinley Nelson entered the game in the seventh inning and finished off the Wildcats, striking out the side.
The Dinos will play at home again on Thursday, hosting Grand County High School at 3:30 p.m.
