The Carbon High School softball teamed earned a dominant win over South Sevier High School on Friday, defeating the Rams 18-5 in five innings. The Dinos tallied 14 hits in the victory and 16 total RBI.
While South Sevier jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first inning, the Dinos answered back quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Mckenna Sorenson hit an RBI single to score Kaytlyn Cripps, and Cali Fossat hit an RBI double later in the inning to score M. Sorenson.
The Dinos scored four runs in the second inning before breaking the game open with eight runs in the third inning. Numerous errors on South Sevier’s end contributed to many of Carbon’s runs, however the Dinos did score on hits as well.
Mckenna Pendergrass hit an RBI single in the second and Kelsey Sorenson hit a two-RBI double in the third. M. Sorenson hit an RBI single to score K. Sorenson. Fossat and Jordan West each hit RBI singles as well before the inning was over.
South Sevier was able to put a small dent in the Dinos’ lead in the fourth inning with four runs, but the Dinos matched that total in the bottom of the inning to keep their sizable lead.
Fossat hit an RBI single, and K. Sorenson hit a two-RBI single, while Mckylie Prettyman was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to score a run.
The Dinos held the Rams scoreless in the top of the fifth inning to end the game.
K. Sorenson finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and four RBI. Fossat went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Jordan West finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Dekoda Kraushaar pitched the full five innings for the Dinos, allowing just one earned run and striking out one.
The Dinos will play at home again on Tuesday, hosting Region 12 rival Canyon View High School at 3:30 p.m.
