Price plans improvements on Terrace Hills BMX track

The Price city council is hoping to have plans finalized and approved in the near future for an improvement in the BMX bike track in the Terrace Hills park. The city waiting for approval of environmental plan which has been submitted to the Sagebrush Trails and Services company which is handling the basic design work. The city is hoping to get volunteers involved, specifically those with experience and knowledge of riding bike trails.

Community involvement

“We hope to get the community involved,” council member Terry Willis said on Wednesday afternoon while touring the area with the Sun Advocate. The area is near the playground and skateboard park. The city hopes to develop two trails, with one designated for beginners and the other for more advanced riders. “We’re probably close to doubling the size,” Willis continued, as she pointed out the geography of the area and the planned improvements. The work is being done in cooperation with the Price Lions Club.
“They need to get their designs and grant approved,” Dr. Barry Cook of the Lions Club said of the status of the plan. The Lions Club already has sponsorship of the park where the tables and the barbecue are located and they hope to continue that by doing the physical labor of the BMX project. “We will be doing the leg work,” Dr. Cook continued, saying that organization will be doing most of the physical work associated with the project, with community involvement encouraged.

Good place to practice

Willis said she also hopes the community will help with upkeep. “The more we can get user maintenance of it, the better,” she said.
A pump park is also being planned on being built with the project, which can help users hone their skills. Willis said the park can benefit riders. Because they can transfer the skills that they learned at the park to local bike trails like those on Wood Hill.
There is no timetable for construction to begin as it is still in the planning stages.
