A high speed pursuit that originated in Wellington Wednesday night ended near Helper after officers deployed spike strips to puncture the tires of the vehicle being chased.
According to a press release from Wellington Police Chief Chad Feichko, Officer Dustin Anderson was dispatched to the Miller Travel Center at about 8:40 p.m. on an intoxicated male involved in a domestic disturbance, and upon arrival, attempted to stop a vehicle reportedly driven by the subject.
But the driver sped away, traveling westbound on SR-6 through Wellington at speeds that reached more than 80 miles per hour in town, and more than 100 m.p.h. on the open highway.

Other law enforcement agencies quickly became involved by joining the pursuit, blocking exits and controlling traffic. The chase ended near mile post 235 South of Helper when the vehicle was spiked by UHP Troopers.
Officer Anderson arrested the driver, 33 year old Levi Daryl of Arizona for Failure to Respond to an Officer Signal to Stop, Evading, DUI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Paraphrenalia, Disorderly Conduct, Never Obtaining a Driver License, and Reckless Driving.
