The Carbon High School girls’ swim team earned the title of Region 12 champions over the weekend, beating out Canyon View, Richfield and North Sanpete high schools for the top spot.
The Lady Dinos’ 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Megan Swasey, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez and Amanda Liu not only finished in first place, but broke the school record by 1.30 seconds, with a time of 2:04.36.
On both the girls’ and boys’ sides, Carbon had numerous personal records set at the Region 12 championships. The boys’ 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Tyson Swasey, Josh McCourt, Rylan Chamberlain and Brandon Bardsley, took third with a time of 1:57.61, shaving .59 off their previous best time.
Megan Swasey took first place in the girls’ 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:34.61, beating her personal record by 5.53 seconds. Veronica Ibanez took first place in the girls’ 100 Yard Butterfly, while Sadie Crompton took second and Kacee Barrett took third. Tyson Swasey finished in first place in the boys’ 100 Yard Freestyle.
Those who qualified will compete at State on Feb. 10.
