A tall crane slowly hoists a 33-ton box culvert as workers tug ropes to position it Friday afternoon below Helper Main Street. The concrete structures will underlie the street in front of St. Anthony’s Church to carry water from the nearby wash.
Flood control is part of the city’s three-year, $22 million rebuilding of its water-related infrastructure. In addition to replacing aged water and sewer lines, the city has also been repaving streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
