Sunnyside residents will soon be seeing new sidewalks throughout the city. The Community Impact Board has approved an 80 percent grant and the remaining 20 percent will be a loan for the city. The cost of the project is estimated at more than $900,000.
From the 1970s to the 1990s, Sunnyside was owned by Kaiser Mine. There were no sidewalk improvements during the time Kaiser owned Sunnyside. Most of the sidewalks today are crumbling or completely gone.
New sidewalks will be wider and have wheelchair ramps at intersections to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
