CHS Track competes at Region 12 Championships

By Sierra Trujillo

The Carbon High School girls’ and boys’ track squads competed at the 2016 Region 12 Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, with 24 athletes qualifying for State. Highlights included Sara Morley taking first in both the Girls’ Shot Put and the Girls’ Discus, making her the Region 12 Champion. Sarah Ohlwiler took second place in the Girls’ 100 Meter Hurdles and the Girls’ Long Jump, and Kyle Quinton took second in the Boys’ Long Jump.
“We did pretty good. We scored more this year than we did last year,” said head coach Jimmy Jewkes. “The girls moved up a little bit this year. We probably didn’t quite get to the level we wanted to be at as a team, but we had a lot of good things happen.”
The team qualified 24 athletes for the 3A State meet, which will be held at BYU next Friday and Saturday.
“I think we’ll score pretty well at State, which is what we want,” said Jewkes. “You never know, we might end up with a State Champ or two on this team.”
