Saturday’s sporadic rain didn’t dampen any spirits at the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum’s Family Day to observe Utah Archaeology Month. Youngsters and parents had plenty of indoor activities with scientific connections. Above, kids learned that stringing colorful beads to make bracelets or necklaces demands concentration and patience.
Mark Bunnell explains to telescope viewers what they are seeing when they look at the tiny black dot of Mercury passing in front of the solar disk Monday morning. The clouds that blocked the sun early in the morning dissipated by mid-morning, providing a clear view of the cosmic phenomenon.
Carbon County Star Parties had six telescopes set up in the CJ’s parking lot. One of them was a specialized solar scope funded by a donation from Desert View Federal Credit Union, according to Eddie Horvath of Star Parties.
