With the beginning of concrete work on curb and gutter this week, residents are seeing the rough shape of things to come on Helper Main Street.
As with streets throughout the city, the work on the central business district underground infrastructure has created a landscape of trenches and mud. That’s changing.
The concrete won’t be laid in a ruler-straight line from Depot to Janet Streets. Plans call for extensions or indents into wider portions of the street, providing room beside the sidewalk for shopkeepers to install planters, benches or other enhancements.
Shops and galleries remain open and the sidewalks are passable. The deadline for all piping and paving is July 1.
