A 29-year-old Carbon County woman already facing three charges of theft and use of a financial transaction card and one count of providing false information at her preliminary hearing was arrested and booked on a different charge on Jan. 29 as a suspect in reported “discrepancies” in Wellington Elementary School PTA accounts.
Nichole Lynn Nelson was booked on one count of theft, a third-degree felony. The arrest followed a 10-day investigation by Sheriff’s Detective Rory Bradley, according to Chief Deputy Cletis Steele. Steele reported that the Sheriff’s Office was approached on Jan. 20 by both Wellington PTA President Sheena Grant and the Utah State PTA board about financial discrepancies that exceeded $3,000. Nelson was responsible for maintaining the records.
She is now out of jail after posting bail.
Meanwhile, she is scheduled for arraignment in Seventh Judicial District Court on Feb. 16 on the other charges. Those date back to May 2013 and were originally investigated by Price Police Detective Chris Pugliese, according to court records. Theft and unlawful use of a financial transaction card are second-degree felonies, unlawful acquisition or possession of the card is a third-degree felony and the false information is a Class A Misdemeanor.
