The old Peterson school in Sunnyside is now home to the East Carbon Recreation Association, bringing quality recreational, athletic and extracurricular activities to the youth of East Carbon in an effort to promote positive community involvement. The newly formed recreation association offers recreational programs for the youth of East Carbon from ages 4 to 14. Ballet and cheer are open to ages 4 to 18.
The recreation association is offering wrestling with both recreational wrestling for the younger children and competitive wrestling for the experienced wrestlers. The competitive wrestlers have been competing in tournaments throughout Utah with many of the wrestlers finishing in first through fourth place.
Also being offered is cheerleading, which is a 10-month program with three age groups participating. The EC Matrix cheer team have performed at USU. They will also perform during Community Daze at Sunnyside Park.
Ballet and tumbling has started, with ballet being held on Monday and Wednesday nights and tumbling on Tuesday nights.
The recreation program has offered summer camps for cheer, volleyball and basketball as well as flag football sponsored through USA – NFL football. Recreation also hosted a Junior Jazz program along with PeeWee basketball and PeeWee tumbling.
The recreation association will be offering T-ball this spring for ages 4 – 7.
The instructors and coaches for the programs are volunteers from the community.
