Wells Fargo Bank is closing its Helper Branch in March. The closure comes three years after Key Bank left the city’s Main Street and consolidated operations in Price.
While the Helper City Council and mayor would unanimously prefer to see another bank take over the Wells Fargo office, the city is considering what to do in the event that doesn’t happen. Last Thursday, the mayor and council decided they would entertain an offer if Wells Fargo wants to donate it to the city for municipal use.
The city wants to avoid having another vacant building downtown. Also, Helper City Hall needs major upgrades and the bank building would provide needed alternative space, either temporarily or permanently.
