Quick response limits damage from attic fire

By Rick Sherman

Nobody was injured but a home at 394 East 1250 South in Price, also known as Lee Lane, sustained about $3,000 in smoke damage Thursday afternoon from a small fire in the attic.
The Price Fire Department responded with two engines when the call came in at 4:41. Chief Paul Bedont said some loose insulation in the attic was smoldering around the chimney of a wood-burning stove, but the smudge was quickly suppressed as firefighters gained access to the attic from the outside.
Chief Bedont said it’s important to have chimneys for wood or coal-burning stoves inspected for creosote every three months, or once a month if it is the only source of heat. And make sure smoke alarms are in working order.
