CHS Girls’ Basketball extends first place Region 12 lead

By Sun Advocate

The Carbon High School girls’ basketball team went on the road last week to beat both Richfield High School and Canyon View High School for its fifth and sixth Region 12 wins of the season.
The Dinos first took on Richfield on Feb. 2, the only Region team to beat them this season. After a slow first half, the Dinos and Wildcats were tied at 17 at halftime. The Dinos were finally able to get into an offensive rhythm after the break and outscored the Wildcats 12-9 in the third period and 12-11 in the final period to bring home the 41-37 win.
Junior Lindsey Blanc led the Dinos with 16 points, going 4-10 from the field with three three-pointers and 7-8 from the free throw line. Senior Sara Morley followed with 12 points of her own, going 6-18 from the field. Morley also led in rebounds with seven, all defensive.
The Dinos then went on to bring home another road win over Canyon View, this one by a 16-point margin. Quite opposite from their previous game against Richfield, the Dinos excelled on offense, scoring 20 points in the first half, while holding the Falcons to just 14. Carbon dominated the second half as well, scoring 10 points in the third period and 19 in the final period, while holding the Falcons to just a total 19. The Dinos won 49-33.
Blanc again led the Dinos on offense with 10 points. Morley led in rebounds with 12, three offensive and nine defensive.
Carbon, now 19-2 overall and 6-1 in Region 12, remains in sole possession of first place in the Region 12 standings. The Dinos will play their last game of the season at home against Juab High School on Thursday at 7 p.m. Seniors will also be honored.
