The USU Eastern men’s basketball team is down to only seven active players on the roster at the start of Region play and the exhaustion is evident in the Golden Eagles’ play.
Although the Golden Eagles still hold an overall winning record of 12-6, they fell to 0-4 in the SWAC with two losses last week dealt by Northern Idaho College and College of Southern Idaho.
USUE faced NIC on Thursday and lost the battle 104-86. Brandon Sly and Alexander Morrell led the team on offense, both scoring 21 points. Sly also tallied five three-pointers in the game.
The Golden Eagles then faced CSI on Saturday and lost again 89-68, with fatigue evident throughout the game. Sly once again led the team with 17 points, while Philip Winston tallied 15 of his own. Tevin Farris led the team on defense with 13 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles will look to catch their breath with a week and a half break for the holidays before facing Western Wyoming Community College in a home game beginning at 5 p.m.
