The four-game road trip for the Pinnacle Canyon Academy high school boys’ basketball team has finally home to a close and the Panthers come away 2-2. They tallied a win and a loss to start the road trip, then picked up a win over American Leadership Academy on Wednesday before suffering a lopsided loss against Tabiona on Friday.
Pinnacle got back to its winning ways on Wednesday, taking home a 44-36 victory over ALA although it was a back and forth battle. While the Panthers led by four points at the end of the first period, ALA came back and went into halftime with a two-point lead. ALA was able to hold on to its lead through the third period and went into the final period leading by three points.
The Panthers were able to come back from the small deficit to go up on ALA by seven points. However, ALA continued to fight and pulled within three points of Pinnacle, but key rebounds and free throws by the Panthers allowed them to keep their lead and come away with the 44-36 win.
Jon Giddings was the stand-out player for the Panthers, leading the team on both offense and defensive. He scored a team-high 14 points for the Panthers while also tallying a game-high 16 rebounds. Noah Mascarenas tallied 10 points of his own, with eight coming in the final period alone.
While Pinnacle would have liked to end the road trip on a high note, the Panthers suffered a lopsided loss against Tabiona to end the trip. The Panthers lost 81-42 and were outscored in each period of the game. Tabiona also about doubles the Panthers’ rebound attempts 32-17. Jorrdon Richardson led the Panthers with 10 points, which included a 6-8 free throw performance. Skylar Graves tallied eight points which included two three pointers. Val Acosta and Noah Mascarenas each tallied six points.
The Panthers will take a few days off for the holidays before hosting a home game againsdt Manila on Dec. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
