PRICE – Shanna Semken Taylor, age 65, passed away December 9, 2015 in Price following a long and courageous fight that was initiated by a brain tumor removed in 2009. She was born June 22, 1950 to Charles Henry Semken and Joyce Call Semken Craig Edwards in Price, Utah. Shanna received numerous accolades in High School and College, including becoming the National Woman’s Champion in persuasive speaking in Michigan. She also won second place in debate and extemporaneous speaking. She was a high honor student and named Speech Student of the year twice. She was crowned “Miss CEU” and later represented the college at the Miss Utah Pageant.
Shanna served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Virginia/North Carolina Mission and was proud to have served with Rex Pinegar as her Mission President. Following her mission she worked as a legal secretary in San Diego, California. Shanna married William Matthew Taylor on May 9, 1975 in the Los Angeles California Temple.
Shanna continued her education graduating with high honors from the College of Eastern Utah with an associate degree in nursing and worked for several years as a RN in Colorado and Utah. Shanna served in numerous positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including early morning seminary teacher, Primary President, Young Women’s President and Relief Society President.
Shanna is survived by her husband William M. Taylor; children Ryan (Kara) Taylor of Grand Junction, Colorado, David (Carrie Anne) Taylor of Grand Junction, Colorado, Rachel (Kevin) Winder of Meridian, Idaho and Rebecca (Matt) Potter of San Antonio, Texas; siblings Michael (Francine) Semken of Orem, Utah and Renee (Oliver) Moore of Gig Harbor, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren
Preceded in death by two stillborn children, Elizabeth and Joseph; her parents; grandparents; and sister Susan (Steven) Blake.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Pinnacle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hospice, and to the staff of Community Nursing Services for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Wellington First/Fourth Ward Building, 50 North 100 East, Wellington, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday December 18, 2015 at Fausett Mortuary, 680 E 100 S, Price, Utah from 6:00 to 7:30 pm with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Saturday prior to the funeral services at the church.
Interment will be in the Cliff View Cemetery in Price, Utah. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Shanna at www.fausettmortuary.com.
