Pinnacle Boys 1-1 so far on road trip

By Sun Advocate

The Pinnacle Canyon Academy high school boys’ basketball team is 1-1 on their four game road trip thus far, claiming a win over Altamont High School on Wednesday, but taking a loss against Dugway High School on Friday.
On Wednesday, the Panthers got out to a 7-0 lead over the Longhorns of Altamont and never looked back. The Panthers won 67-50, but the Longhorns had cut the Panthers’ 10-point halftime lead to five to start the fourth quarter and to three with only four minutes left in the game.
Noah Mascarenas scored a team-high 19 points in the game, shooting 11-13 from the free throw line. Val Acosta scored 15 points in the game, while also tallying nine rebounds, six assists and four steals, all game-highs.
The Panthers’ three-game winning streak came to an end against Dugway on Friday with a tough 47-45 loss. The Panthers led through most of the game, including a 10-point lead in the third quarter. However, they were not able to hold on in the fourth period, due to poor rebounding and shooting. The Panthers only shot 28 percent on Friday, while one of Dugway’s players scored a game-high 31 points in the battle.
Pinnacle, now 3-2 overall on the season, continues its road games this week, taking on American Leadership Academy on Wednesday and Tabiona on Friday. The Panthers will return home on Dec. 29 to play Manila at 3:30 p.m.
