Fossat, Olson lead Dinos to a home win Wednesday, tough loss Friday

By Sierra Trujillo

The Dinos came away 1-1 at home last week, defeating Stansbury on Wednesday 62-54 and losing to Uintah in a close 54-52 game on Friday.
The Dinos were led by their senior captains Cole Fossat and Mitch Olson to their win over Stansbury, with Fossat tallying 18 points and Olson tallying 15, nine of which came in the final period. Head coach Jeff Cisneros said “Cole makes our team go and he just needs to be a leader on the floor, and I thought he was tonight, and he’s going to make a lot of shots and he’s going to get guys a lot of shots.”
The Dinos never trailed against Stansbury on Wednesday, however, going into the final period of the game, the Stallions had cut the Dinos 14-point lead to just two.
Olson’s nine points in the fourth period got the Dinos back on their feet and they were able to capture the win by an eight point difference.
“[Olson] was big. He came out and ran,” said Cisneros. “He really got that lead back up for us almost by himself.”
Cisneros also mentioned that his other senior captain Kasey Moynier made an impact on defense, getting key rebounds for the Dinos. Moynier tallied eight rebounds against Stansbury, five offensive and three defensive.
Friday’s game was a nail-biter in which the Dinos just could not come out on top.The Dinos trailed throughout most the battle, including by 15 points at halftime. In the final 30 seconds, the Dinos tied the game at 52 after trailing by 12 points going into the final period. However, Uintah was able to make one more shot and take home the win.
Fossat led the team with 15 points in the game, with Olson following with 10 points.
However, Cisneros is still sure that his team can have a successful season and still reach the goal of a Region 12 championship.
“It’s just a stepping stone,” said Cisneros. “I told the guys we’re not making the State Tournament with this win or the next win but we’re getting there. Everything we do has got to be a positive to get there.”
The Dinos’ next game will be on the road to Tooele on Thursday. They will return home to play a rival game against Emery on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m.
