CHS Wrestling wins on disqualification in final match

By Sierra Trujillo

The Carbon High School wrestling team picked up another last-minute win last week, this one coming against Canyon View High School. With the Dinos trailing by five points going into the last match, Ryan Jannoud needed to pin his apponent in order for the Dinos to win the dual. In the final 30 seconds of the match, Jannoud won by disqualification as his opponent stalled too many times. This gave the Dinos the six points they were hopeing for to take the victory at home.
The Dinos picked up key wins before Jannoud as well, with both AJ Adams and Dallyn Mower pinning their opponents to bring the Dinos deficit down from 17 points to five.
“[The boys] have certain moves that they know to do and they know we need pins so you could see a little bit more aggressive, AJ Adams and Dallyn Mower, how aggressive they were,” said Woodhouse.
While the Dinos were able to tack on another win to their record, Woodhouse still does not think that they are in the shape that they need to be in. Some of his wrestlers should have been able to pick up wins against their opponents and didn’t, while others may have come away with a win, but should have been able to do so earlier in the match.
“We gotta work harder in practice,” said Woodhouse. “We looked wiped out. We looked like we can’t wrestle a full match and you gotta be able to do that. But it’s a win, and it’s against a tough team so we’ll take them any way we can, and hopefully we just work harder and don’t let it come down to the last match.”
The Dinos will take to the road to battle Richfield on Wednesday and then also travel to the Desert Storm Invitational over the weekend. The Dinos’ next home dual will not be until the start of the new year, Jan. 7 against Juab with JV beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity following at 7 p.m.
Following are the complete results from Thursday’s dual against Canyon View: Bobby Blake (106)- win by pin; Kayden Lee (113)- loss by majority decision; Kayden Gibson (120)- loss by pin; Casey Shiner (126)- win; Caleb Sanderson (132)- loss by pin; Brad Chatterton (138)- win by pin; Jackie Birch (145)- win by pin; Jake Barlow (152)- loss by pin; Cody Lowe (160)- loss by pin; Taylon Abeyta (170)- loss by pin; Kasey Hunt (182)- loss by majority decision; AJ Adams (195)- win by pin; Dallyn Mower (220)- win by pin; Ryan Jannoud (285)- win by disqualification.
