Carbon Wrestling pins Emery in rivalry dual meet

By Sierra Trujillo

The Carbon High School wrestling team won its tough rival dual meet against Emery on Tuesday, in a back and forth battle that came down to the last few matches. With the Dinos only ahead by two points heading into the final match, Kayden Lee was able to pin his opponent to give the Dinos six more points and the victory.
The Dinos won eight of the 14 matches of the night, however head coach Steve Woodhouse said that many of the losses came because the Dinos were wrestling defensively. While this is an adequate approach, Woodhouse has taught his team to compete offensively, instead of worrying about being pinned the whole match.
“Nobody wants to come over here and get thrown to their back or do a mistake and get caught on their back,” said Woodhouse. “I saw a lot of hesitation. It’s [a] rival match and we have to wrestle offensively and we were wrestling defensively. We wrestled defensively all night. Even the guys that we eventually got a pin were just not being offensive, but a win’s a win against a rival school so we’re happy with it. Got a lot of work to do.”
Despite the hesitation that the Dinos showed, they were still able to come away with the non-region victory against their cross-county rival. The Dinos next match will by Thursday at home against Canyon View. JV will begin at 5:30 p.m. with Varsity following at 7 p.m.
