WELLINGTON-Gale Devon Powell, age 70, who was affectionately known to family and friends as “Butch”, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home from complications of a lung disease on November 29, 2015.
He was born January 27, 1945 in Wellington, Utah to Grant and Ruby Thompson Powell.
Butch shared a great love for the outdoors and referred to Nine Mile Canyon and Wellington as “God’s Country.” Butch grew up in Nine Mile and shared many fond memories and stories of his early years. His lifelong love was working and enjoying the Powell Ranch in Nine Mile.
Butch loved horses, fishing, boating, hunting, and did we mention his love for fishing. He loved his grandchildren and was with them watching Christmas movies the night before he passed. He worked in various mines in the area and retired from Utah Railroad. “Rest in peace Butch, ride on cowboy”.
Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Jeneane Olson Powell; her children, Billie (Joe) Sacco, Jan (MaryAnn) Alley, Earlene Alley, Kris Alley, Casey Samples (Eric Hodson); many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Calvin, Neldon, Leonard (Triger) Powell; and a sister, Carol Fausett.
Funeral service, Monday, December 7, 2015, 11:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main) in Price. Family will receive friends at Mitchell’s Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to service. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.
