The Carbon High School boys’ basketball game suffered a loss against Maple Mountain on Tuesday in its first game of the season. The Dinos were defeated by the Golden Eagles 60-45.
The Dinos had a rough first period, only scoring eight points, compared to the Golden Eagles’ 14. Carbon picked up its play a bit in the second period and scored 15 points, but was still outscored by three.
After halftime, the Dinos came out strong and scored 12 points, while also holding the Golden Eagles to 12 points and trailed by nine points going into the final period of the game. However, in the fourth period, the Golden Eagles were able to outscore the Dinos once again 16-10 and the game ended with the final tally of 60-45 in favor of Maple Mountain.
For the Dinos, senior Brad Williams tallied a team-high 15 points with five field goals including four three-pointers. He also tallied one free throw. Junior Kyle Quinton tallied 10 points with three field goals and four free throws. Senior team captain Cole Fossat tallied nine points on three three-pointers. Defensively for the Dinos senior team captain Mitch Olson tallied seven rebounds, the team high for the game, with two offensive and five defensive.
The Dinos will look to improve on their scoring this week before heading to the Ben Lomond Pepsi Classic, which will take place Thursday through Saturday. The Dinos next regular season game will be at home against Stansbury on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
