‘Tis the season to be thankful for a whole lot of things: family, friends, good food, good times, sports. Sports? Yes, sports and here’s a few moments that we can be thankful for this year.
-Another year without the New York Yankees (or the Los Angeles Dodgers) winning the World Series. Thank you Kansas City!
-Riley Curry and her explosive personality that made press conferences actually enjoyable to watch. Thank you Stephen Curry for your adorable daughter!
-Whether the balls were deflated or not, Deflategate is finally over. Thank you to U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman, the judge that finally ended that saga!
-Thank you College Football Playoff system! If it weren’t for you, Ohio would not have even had a chance to win the Championship in January.
-Women’s sports have finally (finally) become important across the country. Thank you United States Women’s Soccer and Serena Williams (who has always been awesome, but some are just now realizing it)!
-On that note, thank you to Ronda Rousey for bringing even more light to the topic of women’s sports! Who would have thought even a few years ago that a UFC fight in which the women’s bantamweight fight was the headliner would go on to be the second-largest event in UFC history? It even broke the record for most single-night attendance with 56,214.
-The NFL was put in its place regarding player “uniforms” by DeAngelo Williams’ two daughters holding a sign that read “We wear PINK because our DADDY is not allowed,” and “The NFL Cannot Fine Us” after he was told he could not wear pink after the month of October ended and was fined for writing “Find a Cure” on his eye black. Thank you for showing the NFL what’s up!
-While this should be something that happened long ago in my opinion, this year’s World Series was the first between two teams that were never segregated. Thank you Kansas City Royals and New York Mets for reaching this mark, probably without even knowing it.
-Adidas announced that it would help high schools with derogatory mascot names (such as the Redskins) to design new logos, as well as provide some financial compensation for the ensuing change. Thank you Adidas!
Happy Thanksgiving!
