Gayle Bradford Mecham

By Sun Advocate

PRICE-Our Mama found her reason to slip those dancing shoes back on and twirl right into our Dad and brother’s waiting arms. We can’t even begin to imagine the joyous reunion that those three had. Gayle Colleen Bradford Mecham gracefully exited this world and glided into the next on November 21, 2015.
Gayle came into this world as a little spring chick on April 3, 1947. She was welcomed into a huge family, the ninth of ten children to Hial and Rose Bradford of Salt Lake City. The little dark haired girl grew up alongside her sisters on the family hog farm and later at their home on 5th West where she had many memories of playing “kick the can” until bedtime, buying 5 cent popsicles and finding hidden quarters in the vacuum which she immediately spent on treats.
Gayle was a sweet, gentle little girl who blossomed into an extraordinarily talented ball room dancer. She spent all of her time and every spare dollar she had on lessons with top instructors and performed under the spotlight for several years both competing and teaching. She loved to tell us about all the beautiful dance costumes.
It was at one fateful dance, she caught the eye of her beloved Georgie. He fell in love with her the second he looked at her and was not at all shy to tell her what “a cute little mama she would make.” It took some convincing on Dad’s part, but eventually that’s exactly what happened. The city girl and small-town country boy with his wild-child antics somehow managed to balance each other, making for an often comical marriage. They spent over 37 years together, weathering the storm together side-by-side. They adored one another even as the wrinkles and gray hair came, always seeing each other as that young free spirit they met that night at the dance. Dad forever serenading her with, “Gaylo Colleeno, my lover doll.” They lived a true love story.
George and Gayle had six children. As her children, we could not have asked for a more dedicated and doting mother than our Gaylee. She spent her days planning how to make us smile and made every holiday into the most special event. She was never without gift bags full of fun to deliver on every occasion and was well known at the post office carrying huge boxes of love to be mailed to her kids and grandbabies she adored so. She truly loved to love.
Gayle’s well known ability to listen and encourage drew people to her like a magnet. After spending time with her, everyone always left feeling so much better. She always made us feel like we could and would conquer the world. She believed in us completely.
Gaylee will be deeply missed by her son Aaron and daughters; Jenny (Justin), Valerie (Jerry), Shellee (Doug) and Heidi (Jesse), her very special nephew, Tyson, and her adoring grandbabies Paisley, Chase, Shiloh, Davis, Cedar, Emeri, and Easton. She is survived by four extraordinary sisters; Rachael, Cherle, Sherrie and Sue and a brother and four remarkable sisters-in-law; Helen, Carol, Dorothy and Mary. Gaylee was truly blessed to have such devoted women in her life.
Waiting for Gaylee is her Georgie William Mecham and her beloved son, Joshua William, along with so many other loved ones that Mom has been waiting so long to see.
Although mom’s absence from this world will forever leave an emptiness in our hearts, we know her spirit is dancing with the love of her life and her baby boy once again.
Love ya, kiddo.
