A camping trailer reported stolen from Tony Basso RV in Price was found Friday morning abandoned beside a narrow, one-way road in Helper.
According to Helper resident John Damron, his wife saw a truck and trailer heading rapidly up the road at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Later she saw the silhouette of a man in the headlights of the truck.
She though nothing of it at the time.
On Friday morning, Damron looked out his window and saw the trailer by the roadside.
“It was parked weird, a big 30-foot trailer in a ditch.” he said.
Thinking the vehicle might have been stolen, he called Helper police. His guess was right.
Helper was assisted by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office in investigating.
From the looks of things, Damron surmised that the driver tried to turn around in the rugged, sage and scrub land off the road. There were torn branches on one side of the trailer, he said.
There was no way to identify the truck or driver in the darkness, Damron added.
